I am Beth Mikesell (she/her) and I have been in private practice for 20 years. Before I began private practice, I worked in a variety of clinical settings including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health clinics where I developed expertise working with adults with chronic depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, substance abuse and other mental health issues.

Any of us can become so overwhelmed by life’s stressors that our usual coping skills can be rendered ineffective. I encourage my clients to examine their thinking and assess how their thoughts influence their actions and behaviors. Seeing the connection between these pieces gives us the opportunity to compassionately create change and rebuild coping strategies that enhance one's quality of life.
A dialectic is a synthesis or integration of opposites. In DBT, dialectical strategies help both the therapist and the client identify and get unstuck from extreme positions. One of the core dialectical strategies is balancing acceptance and change. Bringing this point of view into our work, we will both seek to understand our thoughts and behaviors and work to creating the change you wish to see.
